1. What do you like about blogging?
It allows me to reflect on the class. Time to time I can also refer to my post to recap on the lesson.

2. What you do not like about blogging?
Editing it is difficult. When you are inserting a picture, you need to adjust the size as the space provided is too small.

3. What have you gained from blogging e.g. Language skills, improved fluency, critical thinking, improved thought processes, technology skills etc. How?
I would say that I have improved on my reflecting skill as well as my technology skill. Before this I seldom reflect after each class, thus I was unable to recall what being taught the next class. With blogging it gives me a clearer idea on what is it about and I can refer to it from time to time. As for technology skill, this is the first time I blog and from here I am able to create and design a blog.

4. What do you like about this course?
The introduction to the variety of softwares.

5. What you do not like about this course?
The workload. We need to be systematic in order for us to complete the task in time.

6. What have you learnt from this course?
The variety of resources available in the market.

7. What have you learnt from this course that you did not expect to?
Frankly speaking creating tutorials.

8. What have u expected but do not learn from this course?
Hmm the topic from Halliwell. Nevertheless, I discovered that the topic is reflected in our task.

Step by step guide given.
b. What do you not like about this module?
There are just too many of it.
c. What do you like about the task given for this module?
The varieties of teaching aids used prepare us to be future teacher.
d. What do you not like about the task given for this module?
There are too many tasks and all are due the same date.
e. What are the specific skills that you learn in this module?
Downloading skills.
f. How the skills learnt in this module can help in the making and choosing of teaching aids for the ELT classroom?
I can select the resources from the internet and download it and use it with the primary school children.


2. Photo Editing

a. What do you like about this module?
The variety of photo editing software
b. What do you not like about this module?
Some steps are missing in the tutorial given. And we have to discover it on our own.
c. What do you like about the task given for this module?
We can edit whatever pictures we like.
d. What do you not like about the task given for this module?
There are too many pictures to be edited.
e. What are the specific skills that you learn in this module?
Photo editing skills using variety of software.
f. How the skills learnt in this module can help in the making and choosing of teaching aids for the ELT classroom?
I can download picture from the internet, then edit it and use it in the lesson.


3. Audio Editing Skills

a. What do you like about this module?
The ability to play with music.
b. What do you not like about this module?
The timing of the song. We need to select the correct timing in order to edit the song or audio.
c. What do you like about the task given for this module?
The tasks are not that heavy. We can listen to the music while doing the task.
d. What do you not like about the task given for this module?
Time consuming. We need to be patient in order to select the correct timeline.
e. What are the specific skills that you learn in this module?
Audio editing. Fade in, fade out, noise removal to name a few.
f. How the skills learnt in this module can help in the making and choosing of teaching aids for the ELT classroom?
Yes. I can take the audio from a music and edit it to be used in the classroom.

4. Video Editing Skills

a. What do you like about this module?
We are exposed to video editing skills.
b. What do you not like about this module?
There need to be a theme for every video we make. Nevertheless this is good as we are creating video which is to be used in the classroom.
c. What do you like about the task given for this module?
Fun as we are producing our own video.
d. What do you not like about the task given for this module?
Again time consuming.
e. What are the specific skills that you learn in this module?
Video editing. Cut video, insert pictures to name a few.
f. How the skills learnt in this module can help in the making and choosing of teaching aids for the ELT classroom?
I can know which videos are suitable to be used in the classroom and which one are not.

Introduction to new software.

We are able to create a variety of teaching aids.

We need to create a lot of teaching aids for the task.

Creating brochure, poster to name a few.
f. How the skills learnt in this module can help in the making and choosing of teaching aids for the ELT classroom?
I can decide which teaching aids are to be used in the classroom.


10. If you can change anything about this course, state what is and elaborate?

I would say reduce the tutorial. Some of the tutorials are just basic. It might not bring any benefit to those who have a good command of technology. Nevertheless, I think we can replace it with something that is more advance and complicated.

Week 14

It is the last week. For this week we have to sit for a test. The test is based on what we have learned throughout the whole semester. Through the test we were able to assess our own understanding of the course. After going through it, I realised that I have learned a lot of new things and tools through this course. Thank you Mdm Foziah for guiding us.

Week 13

This is the 2nd last week. As for this week, we are require to submit Module 2 as well as the task. During the class, Mdm Foziah vetted our videos. Most of us were on the right track. Nevertheless, Mdm Foziah reminded us that our video should have a theme and message. So my partner and I intend to do a video on Healthy Living.

In the video we talk about a boy who is fat and seldom goes out of the house. Till one day he decided to go out and play with his friend, while playing he suddenly fainted and the doctor advised him to choose a healthy living. And after a few weeks going through healthy living, the boy finally manage to slim down.

So from here we can see that, there is a message that we are trying to convey to the students. So time to continue with the editing process. Till next time.

Week 12

E-Book

For this week we were shown a few sample of e-books. After viewing the sample, Mdm Foziah decided to have a look at our progress on our own e-book. She said that for the e-book, it need to consist of a theme, setting, have characters, it should has it own plot and also must have sound in it. This criteria given by her will help us in coming out with a interesting e-book.




Before the end of the class, she also shown us sample of video editing. She also mentioned about the criteria that we need to have in the video. As for this task, we are free to choose on any topic that we like.



Thus my group have chosen "Healthy Living" as our topic. We would like to convey our message through the video and hope that those viewing it will be able to grasp the information.

Week 11

For this week we are required to show our edited photo to Mdm Foziah for feedback purposes. The photo is the task given to us in module 2. The class start off with some explanation by Mdm Foziah on photo editing.



She also shows us some sample of edited photos done by one of her friends she knew online. In the picture it is advisable for us to put our signature on it, so that others will know that it is our work. As for the edited pictures, the picture is to have a story and theme behind it. This picture are supposed to be used in the ESL classroom. Most of us definitely have improved on our photo editing skills after today classes.

Week 10

Continuation of Module 2

For this week, Mdm Foziah is back. She asked us to continue with our module. Today is also the day we submit our assignment 2 and 3. I used the time wisely to complete a part of the module. I realised photo editing isn't about adobe photoshop alone. We have other software such as ACDSee, Photoscape and so on. Time to continue with my module.

Week 9

Back toWork

Everyone is back after raya. I would like to wish all my Muslim friends Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

For this week we were given module 2, which is all about photo editing. In order to do photo editing we need to have adobe photoshop cs3, photoscare, ACDsee and etc. With the software installed inside my laptop i have no much trouble doing the tutorial. However it does take up a lot of time for me to explore the function and to locate the button.

During the three hour in class i managed to complete a few tutorials. This was really important as time is so important to us nowadays. So till next time, time to continue with my module.

Week 8

It's time for Assignments

This week we don't have class, nevertheless, there are still works that we need to complete. Module 3, Assignment 2 and 3 to be specific. We were told to use our holiday to complete the task given. Module 3 is on audio editing and luckily it is not as thick as Module 1. Going through this module will help us to know more on how to edit audio. Assignment 2 and 3 meanwhile is on Teaching aids and lesson planning.

In order to complete all the works given we need to have a good time management. Never do all the works last minute as we will not be able produce a quality work. Thats all for now, time to continue with my module.

7th Week

The Continuation of Module One

This week we are allowed to continue on our module 1. This is to ensure that we have enough time to complete it before the break. Indirectly, we can ask Madam Foziah's helps in regard with the task she had given us. So for the moment I'm still trying to complete my module and hopefully by the time I complete it, I would gain something useful.

6th Week

The Receive of Module One

"Jeng! Jeng! Jeng! Jeng!"

It is time for the module. For this week and next week, the focus will be on computing and internet skills. When i first received the module, i was surprise by the thickness. It was definitely thick and we are only given two week two complete. So for this 2 weeks, the focus will be on this module and we definitely need to manage our time wisely. As we are going through the module, we are actually going through new things. We can gain new knowledge from it.

Besides, we are also allowed to add in any missing guides which we think are important and any other additional guides to make our portfolio complete. With this opportunity given by Pn Foziah, I have learned a lot of things from this and this also train me to be a person who will always look for new learning subjects. Honestly speaking, I have learned a lot of computing and internet skills after I have done this module.

The 5th Week

Its a new week again, and this week the focus is on teaching aids. First we were divided into pairs and each pair is given 3 topics each. Based on the topics given, we were required to come out with teaching aids that are appropriate to be used for that particular topic and year. So here are my say on teaching aids.

Various teaching aids can be used in the ESL classroom. Teaching aids help to attract the students' interest as well as attention. This will enable the teaching and learning process to be held in a fun and interesting environment. Besides, it actually suits all type of learning styles. For example for visual learner we can use video and pictures, as for audio learners we can use song and we can use action song for kinesthetic learners. We can see that teaching aids are definitely helpful in helping students to understand better on the particular topic or lesson. When students are interested in following the lesson, they will be able to acquire the knowledge easily. In other words, teaching aids are essential in helping the students to gain knowledge in a fun and interesting way.

The topics which were assigned to my partner and I are

Year 1, Unit 2 - Making Friends

Year 3, Unit 3, My Neighbourhood

1) Making Friends

For this topic, we decided to use colourful pictures, interesting video, fantastic story and cute stick puppets to teach the lesson. With the implementation of these teaching aids, pupils will be attracted to the teaching and learning process. Therefore, they can focus in the lesson thus learn knowledge during the lesson. Besides, the pupils can also learn the moral values integrated in the story.

2) My School

In this topic, we use pictures, power point slides, smartboard and poem. Here, we included Smartboard as one of the teaching aids as I think that pupils are still new to smartboard and I want to provide them the chance to explore it. I had designed a game and it will be projected onto Smartboard. Pupils are required to use the pen on the smartboard to complete the maze. This is a technology based activity and the pupils will definitely enjoy it.

3) My Neighbourhood

For this topic, we had chosen video, power point slides and story. The video shown to the children consists of various places in a neigbourhood. This acts a tool to activate the pupils' schemata as they can link it to the places in their neighbourhood. After that, teacher can ask the pupils to describe their neighbourhood by asking them to draw in "Tux Paint". They have to explain to their friends the places or things that can be found in their neighbourhood.

4th Weeek

3 groups which have not presented last week start off the day. After each presentation, we were given feedback and suggestions on how to apply pedagogy into our teaching and learning session in the class. After all the presentation, I had realised one important factor which are

~~~~~~~ Children learn better indirectly. ~~~~~~~

What is indirect learning? Indirect learning is a situation whereby the students acquire the knowledge subconsciously. When it is subconscious, children will remember better and sometimes they will apply it automatically.

~~~~~~How are we going to carry it out?~~~~~~

Through games. Yes. Children enjoy the most when they are playing games. If we integrate games into the learning skills, definitely children will be able to grasp the knowledge subconsciously. They will then be able to apply it in their academic writing and their daily life.

~~~~Children learn better through imagination~~~~

Imagination is a nature born skill owned by the children. Children are very imaginative and creative as they are able to come out with various type of fantastic and unique idea. The activities which suit the children are story telling, creative essay writing and dramas. As teachers, we should not reject pupils' ideas and opinion although sometimes it sound ridiculous to us. Instead, we should praise and motivate them so that they can further improve on their ideas.

The moral of the day: Child learn better indirectly

3rd Week

It's the third week and it kick off with the 1st chapter of our textbook - Working With Young Language Learners. We were divided into groups and each of the groups was assigned with a particular topic. What I would like to share is the experience going through the group discussion. We divided our work evenly and share our findings. Through sharing, we managed to get a handful of information regarding the topics that we were assigned to. So what i would like to stress here is the importance of sharing information with friends. Through sharing, we will be able to gain extra knowledge.

When we were presenting, we received comments and feedback from the lecturer and also from our friends. These feedback will definitely be helpful in our future presentation besides helping us to be a better presenter in the future.

Besides that I think we should integrate technology into our lesson. By doing so we will be able to make the learning process interesting and attract the students attention to learn.

A successful lesson is when the pupils understand what the teacher is teaching.

2nd Week

For this week, we were exposed to the course background and what are expected from us. We were told that there are few modules that we need to complete in this course such as audio editing, video editing, picture editing etc. After completing these modules we will be able to produce teaching aids hopefully of capturing the children’s attention.

Besides that, we were also introduce to skydrive. This is the place where we can share our documents with our friends. We can upload the document to our sky drive and share it with the rest of our friends. Here I realize the importance of technology nowadays. With technology we can share information with our friends without difficulties.

The lecturer also shows us a sample of our senior’s work. I was quite impressed on the assignment shown to us. The assignment was well organized and beautiful. To be able to produce such a wonderful portfolio will require hardwork and paying full attention during classes. Hope that I will be able to produce such wonderful assignment.

We were also introduce to moyea software, which enable us to download videos from youtube. I find that this is a very useful software as I can download the videos from youtube in just a few seconds. Previously, I had never heard of this software but now after this week lecture, I had tried to download a lot of videos via moyea youtube downloader.

1st week

Teoh Jen Sen PEH080069

Its a new semester, a new start. We were introduce to PBEY3102 which is Using and Developing Resources for ESL Classroom. Pn. Foziah bt. Mahmood is taking charge of this course. Straight to the point she is technology savvy, even some of the program mentioned by her have never been heard by me. Anyway she is warm and friendly with us.

She set us a few task such as

i) to install the Adobe Photoshop CS3,

ii) to buy an 8GB pen drive to be used in this course

iii) to create this blog.

The purpose of this blog is for academic purposes. I am looking forward in discovering more about this course. From time to time i will update this blog.
